The Centre for Local Business Development (Centre) held its first Community Business Talks session for 2023 focusing on the topic of “Establishing Smart Partnerships”.
Five years into rapid economic growth in Guyana, two important business trends have emerging across the O&G sector in Guyana – Guyanese businesses supplying the O&G sector are expanding at an extremely high rate and the complexity and scale of offshore and onshore operations continues to evolve. Given these changes, local businesses and prime contractors have key topics of interest that both parties would like to have a bit more insight on from the other side. It was to help bridge this gap that the Community Business Talks series was created.
In 2022, key topics included discussions on understanding contracting terms, insurance requirements, and more. For this first session of the year, the Centre will focus on establishing smart partnerships. Speakers included SBM Offshore Guyana, Expro and local company Guyana Logistics and Support Services (GLASS) to speak on their partnership experience – both from a supplier side and also forming a partnership.
“The Centre continues to create and host key business engagements and networking events geared at helping Guyanese businesses grow as the economy evolves. This first session tackles a very topical area of interest and we are pleased to be able to help shed some light on this as businesses navigate the landscape,” commented Dr. Natasha Gaskin-Peters, Director of the Centre for Local Business Development.
The session saw over 100 businesses in attendance. The next Community Business Talks session will take place in July 2023.
